The Tezos blockchain has been chosen to help verify a vote on a controversial French commune development and the digital voting system has been developed by Avosvotes. The vote is being used as a consultation to assess community feelings in regards to the development of a bypass road which has been the subject of controversy for more than 60 years.
It is hoped the creation of a new bypass road to the South of the municipalities of Vernouillet and Verneuil-Sur-Seine will make it possible to relieve the area of traffic and make travel safer throughout the area.
It is hoped the proposals will half the current levels of traffic which includes 13,900 vehicles on the road. The operation partly entered the operational phase with the construction of the first roundabout in the summer of 2015. The whole project is estimated to cost in the region of €24 million.
Residents of three the three municipalities of Chapet, Vernouillet, and Verneuil-sur-Seine will be able to take part in the vote. The local authorities had the problem of allowing everyone to vote, including those not currently present in the area (including non-french citizens), while being able to verify identities, enter Tezos.
Tezos will be used to help ensure full transparency in the process. This transparency is important in such a hot-debated topic that involves 3 municipalities, which all have a stake in the proposal and can prove that individual user votes were tampered with in the process. This is because these votes from individuals will be accounted for on the blockchain and the voters will have visible proofs of votes.
You can find the exact contract link on the Publish0X Tezos page by Allen Walters here.
Florian Ribière CEO of Avosvotes who developed the Tezos voting system stated (translated): “In Verneuil-sur-Seine, the decentralized and secure proof of voting on the blockchain resulting from French research Tezos will make it possible to guarantee the sincerity of the ballot. the vote will thus be 100% secure and each voter will be able to check that their vote has been taken into account during the digital count ”.
